What is the Academy Learning Center?
At Medina Christian Academy, the Academy Learning Center is the name of our preschool program that marks the beginning of a young child’s spiritual, social and academic journey. The program is designed to provide high quality child care for extended hours during the school year.
Who can attend?
The Academy Learning Center is open to all potty-trained children aged three to six who are not yet attending Kindergarten. The program is open to all, not just those who attend MCA's preschool.
What makes the MCA Academy Learning Center different?
- Children learn to love God, love others and love learning.
- Small (10-to-1) child-to-teacher ratio.
- The Academy Learning Center introduces children to the latest computer and SMARTBoard educational technology.
- Our program is overseen by the Ohio Department of Education rather than the Department of Jobs and Family Services like most other daycare providers.
- We offer a higher standard of academic curriculum not found in other preschools.
- All Academy Learning Center teachers are educational professionals holding at least a bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate.
What is a typical day like?
While there is nothing typical about our program, we do have a daily outline. Children participate in Circle Time, Play Time, Learning Centers, Snack Time, and Rest Time.
- Circle Time is a time of group learning. Different themes are introduced throughout the year, and major concepts are taught at this time.
- Play Time is a time of individual learning. Children learn through play. Different play activities are planned each day to enhance the themes being taught.
- Learning Centers are used to teach skills on an individual level. Learning centers will incorporate art, music, and manipulatives to enhance the themes being taught.
- Computer Lab and Gym Time are built into our schedule each week to provide an opportunity for your child to learn computer basics and to provide a time for physical education.
-Snack Time and Rest Time Snack times and lunch are times set apart to meet the nutritional needs of your child. Rest time set aside in the afternoon to allow your child to rest.

The Academy Learning Center is staffed by teaching professionals from 6:45am-5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Will the MCA Academy Learning Center prepare my child for Kindergarten?
Definitely! The goal of Medina Christian Academy and the Learning Center is to get each child ready for a lifetime of loving and learning. We do this by reinforcing our core principles of "Loving God, Loving Others, and Loving Learning." Students moving from our Academy Learning Center program to our, or other, preschool programs will hit the ground running and be thoroughly prepared to thrive and grow.
